5-Year Anniversary at Summit
Vista senior living
For five years, Story Crossroads has proudly partnered with Summit Vista Senior Living, bringing storytelling to older adults in a welcoming, intergenerational environment. Under the mentorship of Laurie Allen, trained alongside Story Crossroads leadership through Lifetime Arts, programs engage residents in creative
expression, foster connection, and celebrate lived experience. “This group is great and just dives right in. They left much more excited than when they came in. Good sign,” Laurie reported after this year’s session. Each year, we rotate artists to bring fresh energy and diverse storytelling styles while maintaining continuity and trust. Funding from the Utah Division of Arts & Museums and E. A. Michelson
Philanthropy ensures these programs continue to inspire and connect Summit Vista residents.
5-Year Anniversary with Glendale
community |
For five years, Story Crossroads has partnered with Glendale Community Center and Mountain View Elementary, creating a trusted youth storytelling program each February through April. What began as six weeks has grown to a 10-week residency, giving students deeper chances to develop voice, confidence, and creativity. Rotating artists bring fresh styles and cultural perspectives while maintaining strong relationships. Support from the Salt Lake City Arts Council and Zoo, Arts & Parks (ZAP) ensures continued access to high-quality arts experiences for local youth. Audiences have loved the dynamic duos
of Cherie Davis and Ginger Parkinson and Nannette Guest-Watts and Cassie Ashton, as well as Kira Larkin alongside the late Melva Gifford, whose warmth and humor left a lasting mark. These artists return the first Wednesday–Friday of August for Story Camp—partnering with the Glendale Library to create a joyful summer bridge
that deepens literacy, cultural pride, and intergenerational connection.
Join us May 2 & 4–6, 2026 for free live performances at libraries and Murray City Park, plus
engaging ticketed virtual workshops. Audiences will experience storytelling and teachings from youth, community, and professional artists—Randel McGee, Kristen Clay, Ted Erekson, Betty Sawyer, Paul Boruff, Karla Huntsman, Kristin Pedemonti, and Chetter Galloway—eight remarkable voices sharing imagination, culture, and connection for all ages. Thanks to funding from the National Endowment for the Arts; Zoo, Arts & Parks of Salt Lake County; Creative West; Utah Division of Arts & Museums; City of Murray; Salt Lake City Arts Council; Utah Storytelling Guild; Murray
City Library; Pleasant Grove Library; American Fork Library; and supporters like you, these stories can be shared far and wide. Sign up today—free performances and paid workshops await!
We’re seeking your stories, articles, and art for our next issue, Cerulean Sighs—submissions close

that appeared out of nowhere? Maybe Cerulean Sighs itself whispered a spark of inspiration. Whether your work drifts perfectly on-theme or wanders delightfully offbeat, we want to see your imagination take flight on cerulean breezes. Separate from Story Crossroads, The Story Beast is a free, worldwide e-publication—an incredible platform to share your work with a global audience. Submit by May 15 and let your story sparkle. On February 27, 2026, Kira Larkin told at the 99th house
concert to the Multi Ethnic Senior Highrise in Salt Lake City, delighting residents—many experiencing live storytelling for the first time. Curious questions in the days before—“Will you be reading?” “How do you do it?”—gave way to enchantment as Kira shared her modern, witty twists on fairy tales, proving stories can surprise, delight, and captivate at any age. Explore streams and future concerts at http://storycrossroads.org/HouseConcerts. On February 7, 2026, Sarah Brady led a virtual workshop on curriculum planning for storytellers. One attendee noted, “Techniques are not supposed to be visible but are needed for acting to reach an audience,” as participants left inspired to try new strategies, create study guides, and bring storytelling to classrooms and communities in bold, imaginative ways. As for future events, we have several coming up. We have virtual workshops with Debra Weller (March 7) and Mo Reynolds (April
11). Our 100th house concert will feature Julie Barnson (March 21) who told at the first house concert in December 2015. Plus, we get closer to our 11th Annual Summit & Festival (May 2 & 4-6).
