Story Crossroads at National Storytelling Conference
Story Crossroads is a proud member of the National Storytelling Network. The NSN Membership meeting was one of the most positive and motivating
experiences...and Rachel Hedman has attended many. In fact, Rachel's first NSN Conference was in Bellingham, WA in 2004. Twenty years later...and we returned to Washington. Congrats to NSN on a night-and-day improvement and being a stable and welcoming place for story appreciators. We had a presence at the National Storytelling Conference in the hallways and more. We were grateful to have a table to promote what we do year-round and with many virtual and live-stream options. Most of all, we reminded people about our Memberships and the resources in the Member Library. We have 42 articles (and growing, another to come out August 1, 2024) and 15
e-workbooks so far. Recipes and activities link to the archived "Story of the Month" that rotates from the six major continents. As the National
Storytelling Conference took place in Washington, we saw many of our current members from the West side of the United States that included the Seattle Storytellers Guild, Portland Storytellers' Guild, and Storytelling Association of California. We have a feeling that more organizations and individuals will join us as a go-to place for arts education and professional development.
Live-streaming...& Why It's Important
Ever since May 2020, we have live-streamed in one way or another. We used to only live-stream in connection to our annual Summit & Festival. Then, Steffani Raff announced that we would live-stream the Story Crossroads house concert in January 2023. We had tossed around that idea though Steffani made it
possible for us to jump in and do it. What did we find? People thanking us left and right. People who were sick and couldn't come but now could join in. People who were not in the Utah area where the house concert took place. People within and beyond Utah who simply had packed schedules and wanted to still see the stream afterwards. We saw streaming as a way to be accessible and available as an art form. So we call upon people everywhere to consider either starting or
continuing streaming services. Yes, the in-person experience will always be best. But when people need stories...who are we to deny them? When we had a tech glitch and our live-streaming didn't happen for our June house concert featuring Samantha Fox (shown above), we experienced that dropped-jaw and pit-of-stomach feeling. It only confirmed what we already knew. Streaming is important to people. We had many people asking for that particular stream, and we had to be
honest. Thankfully, our live-streaming was successful for our July 29, 2024. We appreciate all of you in cheering us on and participating in this opportunity to be accessible.

Thanks to Continued Funding
We are thrilled every time that we receive continued funding. While the first-time supports are also validating, we have an ever growth of
thankfulness to organizations and individuals who keep putting their faith and trust in us. While we have many to give credit for this continued funding, we
would like to thank specifically the following: - Zoo, Arts & Parks of Salt Lake County
- Utah Humanities / National Endowment for the Humanities
- Utah Division of Arts & Museums / National Endowment for the Arts
- Western States Arts Federation
- Salt Lake City Arts Council
- City of Murray
Want to jump in with your support? We'd be honored. Remember that you can also add Story Crossroads as a beneficiary to your retirement plans, annuities, etc. We know you make a difference every day that we go forth in connecting with youth and adults in learning the art of storytelling or experiencing
that art.

The Story Beast e-pub & congrats to Alton Takiyama-Chung!
Alton Takiyama-Chung received the ORACLE Circle of Excellence from the National Storytelling Network. He happens to be the Editor-in-Chief for the Story Beast e-publication. The artwork and design is done by the amazing Asia Starr. Have you had a chance to read
and/or contribute to it yet? Each issue has a theme that people can connect to...or not. All past issues can be found on The Story Beast website. We would love your submissions for our 2024 quarterly issues. We have upcoming themes for 2024 such as
"Flavored Fright" ( due August 15, 2024); and "Whirling Winds" ( due November 15, 2024). While this is a different entity than Story Crossroads, we are pleased to see this e-publication that is available for free for anyone and all over the world. All details can be found at storybeast.org. And...the Story Crossroads Executive Director happens
to be the one that launched the idea and worked along amazing people to have it come to pass.
On July 8, 2024, Jim Brulé taught us the importance of having grief be a companion and to transform painful experiences to wisdom that we welcome. So many people expressed thankfulness to the experience. This workshop and other past ones can be ordered at http://storycrossroads.org/AllThingsStory. On July 29, 2024, Kira Larkin shared three original pieces that celebrated female heroes that took place ranging from a fairyland, a train, and a deep forest. You can explore past streams as well as the upcoming house
concerts at http://storycrossroads.org/HouseConcerts.
As for future events, we have at least two every month. Robin Bady will teach a virtual workshop (August 3). We have Story Camp for ages 8-17 (Aug. 7-9). Ted Erekson will be performing
for our 83rd House Concert (August 19).

Enjoy a hint of what to expect with Robin Bady's workshop "The Ladder of Power: Viewing Stories Through the Lens of Class, Race & Gender." See more videos at our YouTube Channel.
If you or someone you know has a story video that you want us to see, then let us know by emailing info@storycrossroads.org.
