We have some first-time plans for 2025...especially as we are looking at our 10th Summit & Festival from May 5-8, 2025. One of these, which is especially possible through funding from Utah Humanities, is "Courageous Conversations: A Respectful Story & Dialogue About
Race." Special guests will share stories of the community connected to race for the first hour. The second hour will be attendees talking about the
impact of these community stories and what they wish to do as a result. We will use Safe Space rules: listen actively and attentively, speak from your own experience and perspective, avoid assumptions and generalizations, respect different opinions and experiences, ask questions and seek clarification, challenge ideas and not people, and be open to learning and feedback. We will also have a multimedia performance based on personal experiences of a mother/daughter mental health journey that combines storytelling, poetry, original music, and film with Tiffani Dean from Pennsylvania. A chat will be with both the artist as well as mental health
professionals. You're saving the dates of May 5-8, 2025...right?
Full House at Pleasant Grove Library
So we thought enough chairs were up...but had to add chairs two different times during the performance at the Pleasant Grove Library that happened on June 11, 2024. We had youth tellers Faye Kauwe, McKinley Brinkerhoff, Esther Walker and story artist Steffani Raff. This is our 3rd year having youth and a
professional tell at this library. We are ready for the 4th year in 2025!

Celebrating with SLCC Community Writing Center
For the second year, we are sharing a booth with the SLCC Community Writing Center at the Utah Arts Festival. We are in the middle of this adventures. We improved the Story Walk by making it a loop within sight of the booth rather than the scavenger hunt approach last
year. Once people build their story (5 signs with following parts - Setting, Character, Trouble/More Trouble, What to Do?, Results/Ending), they can choose to go the extra mile and either write 5 sentences of this story or videotape 30 seconds or more. This way, we celebrate the written and spoken side of storytelling. We love how volunteers from both of our entities roots for each other. By the way,
Kira Larkin is a storyteller and a balloon artist. The deal was that the kids had to create a story with the balloon animal as a character.

The Story Beast e-pub - next issue came out!
Enjoy the latest issue of The Story Beast e-publication with the theme "Chaotic Creations." Each issue has a theme that people can connect to...or not. All past issues can be found on The Story Beast website. We would love your submissions for our 2024 quarterly issues. We have upcoming themes for 2024 such as "Flavored Fright" ( due August 15, 2024); and "Whirling Winds" ( due November 15, 2024). While this is a different entity than Story Crossroads, we are
pleased to see this e-publication that is available for free for anyone and all over the world. All details can be found at storybeast.org. And...the Story Crossroads Executive Director happens to be the one that launched the idea and worked along amazing people to have it come to pass.
On June 1, 2024, Kathleen Santopietro taught us the differences between introductions and beginnings with stories. She gave many examples and let us play with the techniques. This workshop and other past ones can be ordered at http://storycrossroads.org/AllThingsStory. On June 11, 2024, Steffani Raff as well as three youth tellers performed at the Pleasant Grove Library (mentioned earlier). On June 28, 2024, Samantha Fox told the story of the harp and harpists (or what she called "harpers") while entrancing us with her
skills on the instrument itself...and singing! We attempted to live-stream but had some technical difficulties. We had close to 40 people in-person as we know that's the best experience for the art anyway. Still, we will improve and do better for our next house concert for live-streaming. You can explore past (successful) streams as well as the upcoming house concerts at http://storycrossroads.org/HouseConcerts.
As for future events, we have at least two every month. Jim Brulé will teach a virtual workshop (July 8). Kira Larkin will be performing for our 82nd House Concert (July 29). We have
Story Camp for ages 8-17 (Aug. 7-9).

Enjoy a hint of what to expect with Jim Brulé's workshop "Journeying through Grief." See more videos at our YouTube

If you or someone you know has a story video that you want us to see, then let us know by emailing info@storycrossroads.org.
