National Association of Black Storytellers
We had honor of providing connections and rides to venues throughout the Salt Lake Valley for storytellers with the National Association of Black Storytellers Conference the Salt Lake area from November 6-10, 2023. We had as many as four different events on one day (needing three different drivers). The
cooperation from everyone was thrilling. The following NABS people performed due to the efforts by Story Crossroads: Ilene Evans, TAHIRA, Willa Brigham, Gwendolyn J Napier (Miss LuvDrop), Karen Burdnell, Chetter Galloway, Janice Greene, Oba William King, and Mitch Capel. Here are the
places they brought fantastic experiences: Bennion Jr High, Reid School, Joel P Jensen Middle School, Little Critters Learning Center, Jordan Hills Elementary, Copper Hills High School, and Salt Lake Valley Detention Center. Yet, there was still the NABS Conference. We applauded all the sessions and concerts. We
know it was a first time for many in coming to Utah...and we look forward to the next time.
Our Version of Giving Tuesday (12/12)
Do you think it strange that we are promoting 12/12 as our Giving Tuesday instead of 11/28? We have our reasons.... We are in process to be set up through GiveLively.org. This is a free platform for nonprofits to use to manage donations of various kinds including: text-to-donate, peer campaigns, ACH transfers, monthly donations, etc. While PayPal and others provide similar things, we love that GiveLively connects them all together and allows easy end-of-the-year tax deductible letters of what you have donated to us. Rather than doing a Facebook Fundraiser on 11/28, when all these other groups and organizations are promoting it, we thought it would be smarter to have GiveLively all smooth and ready. Plus, we could be more on your mind instead of on a long list of great
causes. Of course, you can always donate year-round. We also appreciate if you have "Story Crossroads" as a beneficiary of any pension or IRA plans. You can also have a donations come from your annuities. Check with your accountant on how it's easy and does not take away from your current beneficiaries.

Talkin' House Concerts with ASST
The word is out that we hold a lot of house concerts. Yes, we are going on our 76th one on Thursday, November 30 featuring Ramona Lucius with Hands-On Folktales. Yes, people can join us in-person as well as live-streamed. We were approached by Artists Standing Strong Together to join Robin Bady (going on
54th concert) and Megan Hicks (on 8th season of concerts), who both have amazing house concert series. We pointed out our House Concert Guidelines for Hosts that can be found at http://storycrossroads.org/HouseConcerts. We revealed how we can be hybrid and how some past concerts can
be viewed on our YouTube Channel under the "Live" tab. We would love it for you to "talk" house concerts, too. Let us know if you need any guidance.

Are you excited for the next issue to come out December 15, 2023? Meanwhile, all past issues can be found on The Story Beast website.
We would love your submissions for our 2024 quarterly issues. While this is a different entity than Story Crossroads, we are pleased to see this e-publication that is available for free for anyone and all over the world. You can subscribe
to the Beastly Blog and/or the YouTube Channel.
On November 4, 2023, Csenge Zalka, Ph.D. shared what can make some traditional tales difficult to tell or that can bother us. She gave a ton of examples while listening to what we brought forth as well. You can order this workshop as well as past recordings at http://storycrossroads.org/AllThingsStory (scroll to bottom). On November 6-10, 2023, we helped transport storytellers from the National Association of Black Storytellers. Those details were shared above.
As for future events, we have at least two every month. We have Ramona Lucius with Hands-On Folktales performing for our 76th House Concert (November 30) and Alton Takiyama-Chung
teaching a virtual workshop (December 2).
|
We are thrilled for Alton Takiyama-Chung to teach "Finding the Heart of the Story: Crafting Historic Stories" on Saturday, December 2. Enjoy this interview on what to expect. Share with others! Attend virtual-live and/or receive the recording. See more videos at our YouTube Channel.
If you or someone you know has a story video that you want us to see, then let us know by emailing info@storycrossroads.org.
