Summit & Festival happened...and still available
We had glorious weather for our in-person while the tech made it possible for either virtual-live and recordings. Your hybrid ticket makes it possible to watch all 28 films. Enjoying them so far? You have until June 15. Or needing to still order? That's now and then view to June 15. We
welcomed students from different schools to the Murray City Park including about 15 people from the Blind Center. More schools participated through the virtual field trips. A teenager at the Detention Center said that they didn't want to hear any stories. Yet, by the end of TAHIRA's session, that teenager vocally said, "I'm glad I came!" One of our Story Education Bites featured "The House on Mango Street" and storytelling influences with
this literature presented by John Alba Cutler, Ph.D. We received 30 questions for the professor to answer...and he did. That's commitment. Thanks to funding from National Endowment for the Arts; National Endowment for the Humanities; Western States Arts Federation; Utah Division of Arts and Museums/Utah Legislature; Utah Humanities; City of Murray; Zoo, Arts & Parks (ZAP) of Salt Lake County; Salt
Lake City Arts Council; Ashton Family Foundation; and people like you.
Primary Children's Hospital - continued
We had our first time connecting with the Primary Children's Hospital in 2022 when we offered free access to the families and children who were stuck in bed or there for healing. In 2023, we gave the same gift and also sent TAHIRA to the playroom to perform. While children were there, some were in bed but could
watch through their screen. They even called in at the end for the Question and Answer session. Every year, we will send a story artist there and give attention to our "forgotten" ones. |
Story Walk at Utah Arts Festival
Excited to go on a Story Walk similar to what we do for the Summit & Festival? We are adapting this tradition to be part of the Utah Arts Festival from June 23-25, 2023. We are combining with the Salt Lake Community Writing Center in the
downtown Salt Lake Library Square. Isn't it lovely when oral and written storytelling combines forces? Build your story! |
The Story Beast e-pub...deadline August 1, 2023
"Winged Words" came out for The Story Beast e-pub. Then, on June 15, 2023, we have "Bright Babblings" coming out. As a heads up, the next deadline is August 1, 2023 with the theme "Under the Tome and Tomb." Whether or not you submit, spread the word. Enjoy the already published
issues. While this is a different entity than Story Crossroads, we are pleased to see this e-publication that is available for free for anyone and all over the world. All details can be found at storybeast.org. And...the Story Crossroads Executive Director happens to be the one that launched the idea and worked along amazing people to have it come to pass. You can subscribe to the Beastly Blog and/or the YouTube Channel.
On April 28, 2023, we had our 70th House Concert featuring Karla Huntsman. Can you believe it? We loved hearing personal stories mixed with traditional ones. We enjoyed several people joining virtual-live or watching the stream later. You can see the link to the stream as well as future house concerts at http://storycrossroads.org/HouseConcerts. In a way, the May 8-11, 2023 counts as in the past yet does not seem that way as people can order and view to June 15. We had a 5-hour hybrid workshop taught by Norm Brecke, a Keynote by TAHIRA, and State of the Art Addresses. Then, combine that with performances and academic discussions.
Explore at http://storycrossroads.org/Festival. As for future events, we have at least two every month. Click button below for what's next from Casadie Smith teaching (June 3) and Karl Behling performing (June 30). Near the
Pleasant Grove Library in Pleasant Grove, Utah? Then June 6 is a performance by Stephen Gashler along with three youth tellers. |
We are thrilled for our biggest event of the year, the Summit & Festival. Get hints of what to expect (and share). Early bird through May 1. See more videos at our YouTube Channel.
If you or someone you know has a story video that you want us to see, then let us know by emailing info@storycrossroads.org.
