While we announced this last month, the official blog and video pieced by Awardco is now up. We received a surprise when $1,000 was given to Story Crossroads due to our positive impact on the community and being nominated for the Goodness Grant through Awardco. You can jump directly to the video that Awardco put together.
The Results of...The Story Walk
On June 23-25, 2023, we had a booth shared with the Salt Lake Community Writing Center at the Utah Arts Festival. We always like to bring a type of storytelling game or celebration. We decided to introduce people to The Story Walk. We had
two parts: finding five signs with three choices on the back to build a story; videotaping or writing the story and sending to us. We gave away about 500 tracking bookmarks and made many one-on-one contacts that will build our connections with the community even more. In about a month, we will feature one of the stories shared with us with permission of that participant. |
Combo of Reader's Theatre & Storytelling
Babcock Performing Readers hold
monthly performances open to the public. In many ways, what they offer is not far off from what we do with our monthly House Concert series. Story Crossroads was invited to collaborate with them for Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 7-9pm at the Whitmore Library (2197 Fort Union Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121). Half will feature oral storytelling while the other half will be reader's theatre. We love it when different arts can combine. |
The Story Beast e-pub...deadline August 1, 2023
"Bright Babblings" came out for The Story Beast e-pub on June 15, 2023. As a heads up, the next deadline is August 1, 2023 with the theme "Under the Tome and Tomb." Whether or not you submit, spread the word. Enjoy the already published issues. While this is a different entity than
Story Crossroads, we are pleased to see this e-publication that is available for free for anyone and all over the world. All details can be found at storybeast.org. And...the Story Crossroads Executive Director happens to be the one that launched the idea and worked along amazing people to have it come to pass. You can subscribe to the Beastly Blog and/or the YouTube Channel.
On June 30, 2023, Karl Behling shared the stories of Hughes and James who came from opposite sides with the Civil War Battle of Franklin, Tennessee. We had 40 people in-person plus several joining through live-stream. You can find that link as well as future house concerts at http://storycrossroads.org/HouseConcerts. On July 15, 2023, Shonaleigh taught "Treasures of the Tradition" and guided in some midrash activities that are
inspired from her experience as a Drut-syla (Yiddish tradition). You can order this workshop as well as past recordings at http://storycrossroads.org/AllThingsStory (scroll to bottom). As for future events, we have at least two every
month. Click button below for what's next from Julie Barnson performing (July 29) and Connie Regan-Blake teaching (August 5) and Cherie Davis/Ginger Parkinson guiding for Story Camp (August 9-11). Plus, Ted Erekson performing (August 11). |
We are thrilled for Julie Barnson to perform George MacDonald's "The Light Princess" on July 29. You can enjoy in-person OR live-stream OR even view afterwards. Get hints of what to expect (and share). See more videos at our YouTube Channel.
If you or someone you know has a story video that you want us to see, then let us know by emailing info@storycrossroads.org.
